Rome is a mesmerising, sprawling hub of architecture, art and history, home to ancient ruins and the Vatican City, the best pizza and the best gelato. Italy's capital should without a doubt be on everybody's travel bucket list, no matter the type of traveller. During the summer the heat was stuffy and intense; we gazed upon building after building in awe and in something of a reverie. The hundreds of fountains dotted around taunted us as no matter how much water we drank, we would still sweat profusely. Despite the weather, we could have stayed there for much longer than a weekend - hell, we could have stayed there for weeks. It's a huge place that warrants a carefully derived sightseeing plan although getting lost within the captivating streets is also not a bad idea.
